This Program, funded by the state and federal government, is designed for New Yorkers who cannot afford to pay for medical care. Medicaid may cover you if you have high medical bills, you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or meet certain income, resource, age or disability requirements. If you are eligible, Medicaid will cover expenses such as hospital care, doctor bills, nursing home coverage, home care and prescriptions.
This Plan is a public health insurance program designed for adults aged 19 to 64 who have income or resources too high to qualify for Medicaid. It is available to single adults, couples without children and parents with limited income who are residents of New York State and are U.S. citizens or listed under one of many immigration categories. Those who are eligible receive comprehensive coverage, including prevention, primary care, hospitalization, prescriptions and other services. Healthcare is provided through participating managed care plans. Minimal copayments may apply to certain services.
Depending on your family’s income, your child may be eligible for Children’s Medicaid or Child Health Plus. Both plans are available through dozens of providers throughout New York State. Families with somewhat higher incomes pay a monthly premium.

Insurance options changed after the Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed. There is now a plan available for those with a pre-existing condition (Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan—PCIP).
