The Clinic operates as a unique partnership between the Divisions of Dermatology and Rheumatology to treat connective tissue diseases, such as lupus, scleroderma and dermatomyositis, which present with overlapping symptoms in both specialties. Its distinguishing feature is immediate collaboration, in which patients are seen simultaneously by a dermatologist and a rheumatologist in the same room, rather than visiting different specialists months apart as in standard care. This approach allows physicians to discuss management plans on the spot and make immediate treatment adjustments without communication delays, providing more coordinated and efficient care for patients with complex conditions that affect both skin and systemic health.

For patients with hair thinning and loss, our physicians perform a comprehensive medical workup to identify and address underlying conditions. Our team employs an artificial intelligence (AI)–powered handheld dermatoscope that allows them to view hair follicles in significantly more detail than standard examinations and also uses the latest modalities, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), light-emitting diode (LED) and laser therapies, prescription medication treatment, as well as nutraceutical plans.

Led by fellowship-trained specialists, our Laser Treatment Program stands out for its combination of state-of-the-art technology and evidence-based approach to skin care. Montefiore Einstein has one of the most extensive collections of advanced laser equipment in the region, used to treat active acne, acne scars and hair loss.

Led by two board certified Mohs surgeons, the Mohs Surgery Program is the Division’s primary surgical arm for skin cancer treatment, offering highly specialized treatment for complex tumors across a diverse patient population with a wide range of skin types and tones. The Program is recognized for digit-sparing surgical techniques that remove cancer while preserving fingers and toes whenever possible. For tumors near the eye or in areas requiring complex reconstruction, our Mohs surgeons work in close partnership with oculoplastic, plastic and orthopedic surgeons, ensuring that patients receive coordinated, multidisciplinary care that prioritizes both cure and long-term function and appearance.

Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care offers a comprehensive Skin Cancer Screening and Treatment Program that helps adults and children find skin cancer early and get expert care tailored to their needs. Our dermatologists provide full‑body skin exams, including dedicated screenings for high‑risk groups such as transplant recipients and people with genetic conditions that raise skin cancer risk. When something looks concerning, they can perform a biopsy and work closely with a dermatopathologist and other pathology subspecialists to confirm the exact diagnosis. For treatment, patients have access to board certified Mohs surgeons for precise removal of many non‑melanoma skin cancers, with support from plastic, oculoplastic and orthopedic surgeons when cancers are near delicate areas like the eyes, hands or feet. The Program also connects patients to clinical trials and support services, so people receive both leading‑edge treatments and help managing symptoms and daily life during care.
