We use the most advanced imaging and diagnostic technologies, including high-resolution 3 Tesla (3T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET). The team uses minimally invasive image-guided biopsies, such as fine needle aspirations (FNA) and core needle biopsies (CNB), artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) for surgical planning and training and genetic and genomic testing to optimize precision care.
A full range of personalized and targeted treatments is available, including radiation, chemotherapy and newly emerging therapeutics, such as gene therapy and genetically targeted treatments. We are one of only a few centers nationwide to use high-dose brachytherapy for head and neck cancers. Our team employs adaptive planning, which involves adjusting radiation treatments throughout therapy based on each individual’s specific response to the treatment. Our four-dimensional (4D) CT imaging system tracks tumor and normal tissue motion. Adaptive planning was pioneered by Montefiore Einstein Radiation Oncology. This allows us to personalize radiation treatment timed to an individual’s breathing cycle. We’re also one of a handful of centers nationwide to combine the most advanced radiation techniques, such as proton therapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), with personalized planning to increase the chance for a cure while minimizing toxicity and preserving quality of life.
If surgery is required, our multidisciplinary team of head and neck surgeons uses the most current and advanced surgical approaches available, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, to ensure faster recovery. If surgery is recommended as part of your care plan, we’ll coordinate scheduling with our world-renowned surgeons at one of the many locations within our health system.
We use microvascular reconstructive surgery techniques, image-guided surgical navigation and three-dimensional (3D) printing for preoperative planning.
We also specialize in a wide range of surgical techniques, including transoral laser microsurgery, TORS and advanced reconstructive surgery. For individuals with skull/cranial base tumors, our Comprehensive Skull/Cranial Base Center is one of the first and few centers in the nation to routinely offer TONES, a minimally invasive brain tumor surgery performed through the eye, at times requiring minimal incisions, while preserving the patient’s vision.
Our team performed the world’s first transoral robotic total laryngectomy and the world’s first transoral robotic free flap reconstruction of the tongue base. We are widely recognized for our expertise and innovation in medical simulation, from otorhinolaryngology bootcamps to in situ training, aimed at improving patient outcomes.
We offer advanced treatments for a variety of nasal and sinus conditions, specializing in minimally invasive approaches for conditions such as chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction and sinonasal and skull base tumors. Our diagnosis and treatment focus on personalized care and reduced recovery times. By integrating the latest surgical techniques and nonoperative therapies, we ensure comprehensive care tailored to the specific needs of each patient. We offer treatment options ranging from in-office procedures, including balloon sinuplasty, turbinate reduction and posterior nasal nerve radiofrequency ablation, to advanced minimally invasive endoscopic sinus surgery and endoscopic skull base surgery. We use advanced technology and image-guidance systems to support our surgical procedures. Our team also combines expertise in rhinology with other disciplines. We work closely with facial plastic surgeons to provide reconstructive and cosmetic solutions for conditions such as facial and nasal fractures, as well as rhinoplasty, helping to restore function and achieve aesthetic goals. We also work closely with neurological surgery to manage skull base tumors and lesions. If surgery is recommended as part of your care plan, we’ll coordinate scheduling with our world-renowned surgeons at one of the many locations within our health system.
Rhinology tumor cases are presented and discussed at a multidisciplinary tumor conference. At this conference, specialists from otolaryngology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, radiology and pathology meet to discuss each case and develop the best possible treatment plan for every patient.
Montefiore Einstein’s Otology and Neurotology team provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for all conditions affecting the ear and adjacent skull base. Our expertise includes the evaluation and treatment of hearing loss (including bone-anchored hearing aid solutions, cochlear implantation and stapes surgery), chronic ear infections, facial nerve disorders and skull base tumors (such as paragangliomas and vestibular schwannomas). We also specialize in caring for patients with vestibular disorders, such as Ménière’s disease and superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome. We take a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, harnessing the diverse expertise of otologists, audiologists, neurosurgeons and physical therapists to ensure that patients receive the most effective treatments tailored to their individual needs.
Screening is the essential first step in diagnosing sleep disorders and creating an effective treatment plan. Montefiore Einstein’s sleep specialists use advanced assessments to diagnose conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), upper airway resistance syndrome and snoring. We begin each evaluation with a thorough review of each patient’s sleep history, lifestyle and health profile to identify symptoms and risk factors that contribute to sleep disturbances. Based on these factors, we may recommend an overnight sleep study to monitor brain activity, oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing and body movements. For those who prefer a more convenient option, our at-home sleep apnea test measures key indicators like breathing and oxygen levels from the comfort of home. Additionally, for narcolepsy, we offer a daytime sleep test, also known as a multiple sleep latency test, which evaluates how quickly and deeply a patient falls asleep during the day.
Montefiore Einstein’s team will develop a highly personalized treatment plan for each patient. These treatments range from nonsurgical options, such as continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) therapy and custom oral appliances for sleep apnea, to advanced surgical procedures. When surgery is required, our specialists use the latest techniques to improve airflow and breathing, including:
- Hypoglossal nerve stimulation: a minimally invasive surgical implant procedure that offers an effective long-term solution for treating OSA, serving as an alternative to CPAP
- Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) and palatal advancement surgery: a surgical option for addressing snoring and airway obstruction by removing or reshaping the palate
- Epiglottoplasty: a surgical procedure that modifies the shape of the epiglottis
- Tonsillectomy: partial or complete removal of enlarged tonsils to open up space for breathing
- Adenoidectomy: partial or complete removal of the adenoid glands to open up space for breathing
- Nasal surgery: surgical procedures that address the septum and turbinates in the nose
If surgery is recommended as part of your care plan, we’ll coordinate scheduling with our world-renowned surgeons at one of the many locations within our health system.
