Behavioral Health Services We Offer
Whether you are new to mental health treatment or have had years of experience, we take an individualized approach to your care. Your journey begins with an expert assessment, where we always respect your unique history, preferences and goals. We then review various suitable treatment options. Together, we work to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to help you achieve the best possible outcomes.
Our personalized treatment options include different forms of developmentally appropriate psychotherapy and medication treatment where needed. We believe in a collaborative approach that supports the entire family. Our therapists work closely with parents and guardians during challenging times. Where appropriate, we coordinate care with pediatricians, guidance counselors, school deans or other professionals to ensure your child or adolescent receives state-of-the-art care from the right treatment provider or team.
Montefiore Einstein Behavioral Health also offers the convenience of face-to-face video therapy sessions with our clinicians. While video therapy differs from in-person sessions, you can still speak with your therapist about any issue you may have in a safe and secure environment. Just like in-person sessions, your therapist will listen, offer feedback and help you reach your desired resolution.
Our treatment planning begins with an expert assessment that includes an interview with a mental health professional, supplemented as needed by selected questionnaires and, in some cases, additional testing. We want to clearly understand your initial concerns, overall preferences and ultimate goals so that we may develop the most effective patient-centered plan possible.
Also known as talk therapy, individual psychotherapy involves meeting with a psychologist, social worker or psychiatrist. These sessions can use one or more evidence-based approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT) or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). The choice of therapeutic approach is often based on what is known about the success of different methods for treating each condition, as well as your personal preferences.
Some forms of talk therapy are particularly effective when led in a group setting by an experienced psychologist, social worker or psychiatrist. Participants in the group benefit not only from the therapist’s skills and insights but also from the opportunity to support and learn from one another.
Our psychologists, social workers and psychiatrists can meet with families or couples during challenging times. Family and couples therapy can be an effective way of addressing relationship problems from multiple perspectives. In some cases, only a few sessions are needed to evaluate and strategize around an impasse in a relationship or a complex family dynamic. Others can benefit from ongoing treatment to develop the tools necessary to successfully tackle persistent challenges.
We offer an evidence-based, family-centered approach designed to support parents or guardians of young children with behavioral problems. This form of therapy was developed with a focus on the unique developmental skills and needs of young children and their families.
Our psychiatrists have substantial expertise with medications developed to safely treat a wide range of conditions, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Some individuals can be treated with medications alone. Others benefit from a combination of medication and psychotherapy, while others still may only require psychotherapy. Special consultation is also available for those interested in the risks and benefits of medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Our faculty practitioners continuously integrate the latest evidence-based treatments for different conditions with a patient’s preferences and health goals.
We offer in-depth testing for children, adolescents and adults who exhibit learning, attentional or cognitive problems, including suspected learning disabilities, ADHD, mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Our comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations typically consist of a four- to six-hour session or several shorter sessions. We then review the assessment report with you and discuss our recommendations.
