A globally respected leader in the diagnosis, treatment and research of heart rhythm conditions, the Montefiore Einstein Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Program is led by world-renowned cardiologist Luigi Di Biase, MD, PhD, and is one of the highest-volume centers in the country for the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmia.
Our team of world-renowned cardiac electrophysiologists provides early detection and treatment for a vast spectrum of conditions relating to cardiac arrhythmia, including comprehensive catheter ablation services using multiple energy modalities, including radiofrequency, cryoenergy and pulsed field ablation (PFA), and serves as a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigational device exemption clinical trial site for newer energy sources. The Program offers complete fluoroless (without X-ray) catheter ablation for all arrhythmias, making it one of the few programs worldwide to eliminate ionizing radiation exposure during these procedures.
The Montefiore Einstein Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed specifically to meet the needs of patients who require a comprehensive, structured and carefully monitored approach to heart health recovery, which begins during hospitalization and continues at home. Patients gain a better understanding of their condition and learn how to manage it, increase their ability to perform daily tasks, improve overall health, regain strength and reduce the risk of future cardiac conditions. The Program typically includes up to 36 sessions over the course of three months, for an average of three sessions per week.
Our leading world-renowned interdisciplinary specialists include expert physicians who are board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and in cardiology. The team monitor all sessions to help create a long-term maintenance program designed to promote the best possible recovery.
We’ll coordinate any additional care or specialized services you may need, bringing together experts from across our health system to ensure your care is fully integrated and comprehensive.

Montefiore Einstein Cardio-Oncology, led by Lili Zhang, MD, FACC, and Carlos A. Gongora, MD, focuses on monitoring, diagnosing and treating cardiac complications resulting from cancer therapies, as well as preventing and treating cardiovascular disease in cancer survivors. We work collaboratively with Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, which is among the elite 1% of National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S.
Our world-renowned, multidisciplinary team collaborates closely with medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, interventional cardiologists, arrhythmia experts and heart failure specialists to offer comprehensive treatment of cardiovascular conditions associated with cancer therapies and to provide optimal and safe cancer treatment for patients who have, or are at risk of developing, heart disease.
Montefiore Einstein Cardio-Oncology uses some of the world’s most advanced cardiovascular imaging technology—including speckle tracking echocardiography (STE), cardiac computed tomography (CCT), cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging and positron emission tomography (PET)—to detect cardiotoxicity at an early stage and achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
We’ll coordinate any additional care or specialized services you may need, bringing together experts from across our health system to ensure your care is fully integrated and comprehensive. If imaging or surgery is recommended as part of your care plan, we’ll also coordinate scheduling with our world-renowned specialists at one of the many locations within our health system.
Cardiovascular imaging is an essential component of cardiovascular diagnostics. The Montefiore Einstein Cardiovascular Imaging Program is among the largest in New York City, with 60,000 imaging studies performed each year using the most advanced technology available. Our program works in a multidisciplinary team to create baseline heart imaging studies. This allows our cardiologists and our cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons to provide comprehensive diagnoses and individualized treatment plans for all heart conditions.
Our sophisticated nuclear camera with computed tomography (CT) subsystem produces sharper images and emits less radiation than older models. The system can also calculate a patient’s calcium score, a major consideration in assessing cardiac risk.
Working together with our renowned cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons, we provide the most precise diagnoses possible using noninvasive methods, advanced cardiovascular intervention technology and state-of-the-art resources. We are committed to achieving the best clinical outcomes for outpatient therapies, noninvasive interventions and surgery alike.
If imaging is recommended as part of your care plan, we’ll coordinate scheduling with our world-renowned specialists at one of the many locations within our health system.
At the forefront of cardiac care and research for over 40 years, the Montefiore Einstein Heart Failure Program, led by world-renowned physicians, is defined by exceptional outcomes, technological innovation and clinical excellence. Our heart transplant program is the best in the tri-state area and the fastest growing program in heart transplantation. We are at the forefront of expanding the transplant donor pool through innovative approaches, which includes performing the world’s first HIV+ to HIV+ heart transplant.
The Montefiore Einstein Heart Failure and Transplantation Program comprises a cross-collaborative team of cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiac imaging specialists who contribute to each patient’s treatment plan in order to arrive at the most effective solutions, from medical therapy to transplant. We treat patients across all areas of care for heart failure, depending on their type and stage of disease.
Our Program considers treatment options according to the stage and severity of heart failure, offering medical, surgical and mechanical circulatory support treatment options:
- Medical therapy: evaluation for resynchronization therapy with a biventricular pacemaker or defibrillator implantation
- Surgical options: Complex coronary revascularization, valve surgery, ventricular restoration and arrhythmia repair. If surgery is recommended as part of your care plan, we’ll coordinate scheduling with our world-renowned surgeons at one of the many locations within our health system.
- Mechanical circulatory support and transplantation: Ventricular assist devices (VADs) or mechanical heart pumps may be used as a transplant alternative or as a bridge to transplant while the patient is awaiting a donor heart. For patients with end-stage heart failure, we provide comprehensive heart transplantation care, including evaluation, listing, surgery, and lifelong post-transplant management.
Montefiore Einstein Interventional Cardiology is dedicated to the proper diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of coronary artery, valvular and congenital heart disease. Our Center for Heart and Vascular Care has been internationally renowned as an innovative leader in cardiac care for over 60 years. In 1958, we developed the world’s first transvenous cardiac pacemaker. In 1960, we performed the world’s first coronary artery bypass operation. Our Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) Program is one of the few in the world performing pulmonary endarterectomy (PTE), an advanced surgical procedure to remove clots from the blood vessels in the lungs. We continue to lead the way in the discovery of advanced treatments and protocols for coronary disease, housing one of the leading catheterization facilities in the United States.
We offer patients a range of options for managing cardiovascular complications. Our interdisciplinary team collaborates with numerous departments, including radiology, vascular interventional radiology, pediatrics, emergency medicine and anaesthesiology, to ensure that each patient receives thorough, comprehensive care tailored to their individual needs.
